Friday, July 31, 2015        Essex   Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario   (FedDev Ontario)

Jeff Watson MP, on behalf of the Honourable Gary Goodyear, Minister for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), today announced that Windsor-Essex will benefit from funding through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program.

The Harper Government has approved funding totalling over $1,000,000 for seven local recipients. These include the Essex Region Conservation Foundation, the Town of Tecumseh, and five branches of the Royal Canadian Legion. For more details, please see the backgrounder.

This announcement is one of many for projects approved through the Program that will improve and preserve community spaces across southern Ontario, with the aim of giving back to Canadians and creating a lasting legacy as Canada prepares to celebrate the150th anniversary of Confederation in 2017. The program is expected to boost economic activity through infrastructure investments, build community-based partnerships and modernize existing community facilities.

The contributions are contingent on the execution of contribution agreements with recipients.

Quotes

“The Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program will preserve and improve our community infrastructure, so that Canadians and their families can enjoy moments of culture, sport, recreation and leisure, not only to commemorate Canada's 150th, but for years to come. The Harper Government continues to deliver infrastructure jobs and benefits to Windsor-Essex."

Member of Parliament, Essex

“Today, with the support from the Federal government and the Town of Essex, we are pleased to announce our Trail On! campaign has reached $750,000 of its $1million goal to complete the trail.  Green spaces, trails and a healthy environment directly contribute to our region being recognized as a place of choice for people to live, visit, and invest.  Trails improve the communities where they are built, which is why we are so pleased to be celebrating another success with our partners,”
Susan Stockwell Andrews,
President, Board of Directors, Essex Region Conservation Foundation.

“We are  very appreciative that our proposed project for enhancements at Lakewood Park  through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program has been approved.  Infrastructure investment partnerships with  the Federal Government provide leverage and contribute to successful projects as we work collaboratively  to strengthen our communities.”
